Vauxhall (Opel) Vectra 1.8 help please

I am hoping to connect this project to a Vauxhall (Opel) Vectra, 1.8, 16 valve,petrol, 2000. It has a SAE J1962 connector, but with following pins only present:
pins 2 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12 & 16.

4 & 5 seem to be GND OK and 16 is +12V.

I have seen a posting that gives:

pin 3 Alarm immobiliser
pins 6,7 as ISO 9141 K and L lines
pin 8 multidisplay/autoradio
pin 12 ABS/airbag

Does anyone know any better, or is this vehicle completely OBD non-compliant?

HAVING A VAUXHALL VECTRA 1.8 16V PETROL Y REG I SUSPECT
THE LEAD SUPPLIED WILL NOT FIT AS THE DIAGNOSTIC SKT IN THE CAR WILL NOT ACCEPT A PLUG WITH THE SHIELD BETWEEN THE PINS. AM I SEEING INCORRECTLY FROM THE MAGAZINE OR IS THIS THE CASE,IF SO CAN YOU ADVISE AS TO WHAT SKT IS FITTED TO MAKE A CUSTOM LEAD.
PS I HAVE POSTED A QUERY ONTHE FORUM TO THIS EFFECT.

The SAE OBD plug fits fine; not clear what you mean by the shield between the pins? I bought a plug only from S K Pang and made up a lead by chopping off one end of the RS232 lead supplied with the kit; the I use a USB-to-serial lead (plus a bit of software) as my laptop only has USB.
Still trying to discover what protocol on which pins on my V-reg Vectra.
I think I can guarantee that Y-reg vehicle will not be OBD compliant, so save your money!!

I have a Vectra 1.8 year 2000 with a 18XE1 engine (the version with a throttle cable) The Elektor OBD unit does not work with it. The EMU has CAN diagnostics but only the CAN-H line is present in the OBD socket. The Elektor interface requires both to be present.

Rather frustrated, I bought a Gunson unit for £17 which is just a switch that puts short between pins 4 and 6 (GND and CAN_H) on the OBD socket. The MIL light then flashes out a 4 digit error code (10 flashes representing "zero") The result showed a faulty MAF sensor.

The Gunson procedure probably will not work with the 18XE engine as this has a K-Line diagnostic interface !!!! But there is not harm in shorting the K-Line to check if it works.

The are single line CAN interface chips about, which I hope to try out soon !!!!
