thinking 'out of the box'

Miscellaneous subjects not necessarily technical

I always wondered what the phrase meant.now I know- it's what the majority of people cannot think-

I have started a new project.
the start point is always the internet to see what other people have done and made available to the general public, followed by the PDF data files on the manufactureers relevant data sheets .

So, 1st go- PT100 interfacing.temperature data logging using a PIC chip.no projects on the tinternet, only PICO which have £350 pt100 logger.Seems that a constant current source is required an my analogue expertese is low or non existant.

So,2nd step - type-K thermocouple -looks promising with a MAX 6674 or 6675 i.c.Simple serial o/p but does the data require a lookup table.? and calibration?

dn't mind cos I have expertese on Ds75 (-40 degree to +140 degree, but considering temperatures in U.K. might be higher/lower in the next century.

Why am I researcing high temperatures?

I'm researchine the CANBUS and as always I design and then find a use for it.

So far nothing, and the it occured to me that it might be appropriate for Kitcars- checking out engine temperatures etc.Just sourced a chinese $200 touch screen 5 inch lcd XP pc tablet.
apy new year to ELEKTOR staff and managemnet and Crcuit cellar- Steve Ciarcia designed an EPROM programmer with a couple of PP3 batteries for Vvp - I used a 5 to 13 volt dc-dc converotor 20 years later!
