5v Automotive Supply

Hello all,
I'm new to elektor and new to PSU Design. I've no idea where to start and probably need a good introductory book on the subject. There are a lot of texts on switched mode power supplies and I'm not sure if that's too specific.

I'm trying to get a "clean" 5Volts out of an old old car. That could mean a lot of interfence and problems. I've found this web site and thought it might be a good starting point. If anybody can add a pointer or a recomendation that would be brilliant and gratefully received.
