web camera capture detecting head location

The electronics enthusiast's product design cycle

I read the article " Image Processing made easy". This sparked an interest i had on detecting a persons head location. I want to be able to have a device , servo controlled, to point at a persons head so it will look at them. Any suggestions?
Figure 3 in the article looks like i could write some sort of program which would detect the top part of the person.

ex. A servo controlled head which would detect when a person enters the room, turn and the head would move up on down to look at the person and follow their movement.

Not sure how / where to start. Not a lot of time programming in visual.
