Digital Train Decoder Sep 2002 & Feb 1989

Title basically says it all

Dear Elektor.
New Decoders for.
The Digital Model Train Controller from Feb/March to October 1989 by T Wigmore.

This is going back a bit but maybe someone knows a short answer.

Does the EEDTS decoder (Sep 2002) or any other modern decoder work with the original controller?

I built the original version after it was published.

Now I need some new decoders, the originals are starting to fail and they won’t fit in modern locos.
I tried a basic Digitrax decoder (DH123D)
I built a serial programmer for it to set address and other features, which works fine.
But the decoder is deaf to track control data.
It just behaves as a DC loco.
Or it does nothing if I turn off the DC function.
I assume the baud rate is wrong, or the control frequency is wrong (19.2KHz) for the Elektor loco decoders.

I thought it was possible that modern decoders would work since the controller was supposed to work with original Marklin Control 80 and HO decoders.

Does anyone know any tricks for programming modern decoders to make them work with the original controller?

Did the original conform to any of the current NMRA standard?

Thanks.
Carl

Hi Carl,

I tried to build one loco decoder but the PIC software is missing and without that the decoder is dead.

Because this is a very old Elektor project do you mind share, if you still have, the asm program or the HEX to program the PIC16F84.

Kind regards,
