Elektor Profiler: Vectric Cut2D and Profiler Pro

The electronics enthusiast's product design cycle

Postby hari87 » Thu Jan 27, 2011 12:00 am

Has anyone used Cut2D (http://www.vectric.com/WebSite/Vectric/cut2D/c2d_index.htm) together with the Profiler? We have the new controller board, but have not been able to find a solution yet.

Cut2D has tens of different postprocessors for cnc machine but none seems to work loaded into Colidrive Pro. Some generate a software error, others loads and shows correctly but the Profiler does not move or moves strangely.

Its three years that we own this machine and for a number of reasons (mostly due to our discontinuous attention to this issue) have never been able to find a full workable solution. We are writing also to both Colinbus and Vectric support to seek their help.

Cut2D is a very nice program to work with and we would like to keep it but also any other *good working solution* to process .dxf (and other formats) toward .cbr or g-code format that WORKS with the Profiler are welcomed.

Hi Roberto,

Programs which can make cbr from a DXF:

I now use Colinbus' toolpath generator ColiCam; http://www.colinbus.com/en/cam_en.htmGenerates cbr and g-code.
In earlier days I tried the freeware trail-version of Cut2D. In it a postprocessor called : Colinbus_ATC_mm.pp
Colinbus_ATC_mm.pp and attached here. Its edditable with Notepad, if necessary ? (not experienced on that theme).
Rams varieties also generate cbr code: http://www.rams3d.com.See also the usefull Profiler software from Lukacs Sudar here : http://www.sudar.ch/cnc/index.html and browse to download.
And on the Dutch profiler forum is a freeware program of Piet van der Wal:
http://www.elektor.nl/forum/forum/actuele-projecten/profiler/profiler-programma.1036670.lynkx and rename the extension there from piz in (of course zip). The program is in English.

Please let the members here know of your progress too so all can learn from it.

Thank you Hessel,
I wrote this morning to Colinbus support and they sent me an updated controller program that indeed behaves better, but I have to make a "real" run to be sure.

This new version of Colidrive is V3.0.0.0.75 and indeed DOES load .c3d files made with that postprocessor (the same you kindly attached) and now they run too. How accurately I do not know, as I said I have to try them out in a "real cut" situation.

I tried the ProfiDoit software from Piet van der Wal before, but it simply never found the Profiler machine on any COM port, no matter how I changed address of the serial port in bios or in the program itself: on the same PC I have to say that Colidrive (all versions) found the Profiler immediately on every COM port address and IRQ I used.

I also tried Lukacs Sudar programs (they are still installed on the milling PC), but there seem to be too many flavours of G-code and HPGL around to be sure if some ""quirk" came from the g-code, the Lukacs program, the Coilidrive software or from us...

We have to run "real" situations, but the postprocessor Vectric file seems reasonably comprehensible, and now that the Colidrive software loads its outputs could be worth investing time to make it fully work. I also asked Colinbus to check the pp file for inconsistencies that might be between Colinbus ATC machines and the Profiler, best thing would be to have a true cbr output.

Ill post here news as soon as they came, thanks for your help!
