Protection against wrong power supply (220V vs 110V)

Also covers batteries and chargers

Hi,

I bought an expensive audio equipment in the US and plan to bring it back to Europe sometime next years.

It is naturally 110V supply and the input transformer does not have the 220V wiring option. I may find an alternate 220V transformer but it is of very special design.

I will then use a 220V to 110V step-down transformer but would really like to protect the equipment form burning in case of inadvertent direct connection to the 220V grid (been there, done that...)

Would you suggest some references to schematics that I could start with ? the idea is to place a relay or fast breaker between the input connector and the transformer that would cut the power supply if input voltage is > 120 Volts

Thanks very much,

Gilles.

Don't cut the US plug off it - that way you can't plug it in over here!
