My EB006 has a fault

An Elektor Distance Learning Course

Postby iamborg1of1 » Tue Jan 21, 2014 12:00 am

I was about a 3rd of the way through this course and every thing was going great doing exercise and although a few miner errors every thing was going fine, but all of a sudden I was getting it wrong nothing would work, I would do the program and upload it no problem ,and I have to say I almost gave up .But I went back to the beginning of the course to try again but still even the simplest of programs would not work it was then I realized its the board and not me.All though it an intermittent fault it sadly works much less of the time than when its working, Now I have had this for more than a year. And started doing it after I had meningitis which left me disabled. And know one will employee me know. My problem is now I can not afford to buy a new EB006 so Is there any body out there who has a second hand one for sale that I can afford.Or this for the moderator would it be worth sending back to see if it can be repaired.
If you have my email address is ai.roboticsltd@yahoo.co.uk
Thank you for taking the time to read this

If you can upload programs and this gives no errors than it is quite unlikely that the board (or the PIC microcontroller) is malfunctioning.

A possible cause woud be incorrect configuration (page 55 and 56) or clock speed (page 56).

Hi I understand what you are saying, but all the settings are correct. When I upload a program some times they work but after anything from 30 secs to 5 mins it just stops then it wont work for a day or to then it will .But its so variable that you just never know.

Here are two things you can easily check yourself:

1. Close to the powerconnector of the EB006 you'll find a component with a metal backside and a rond hole in it. The text on it contains the code 7805. This is the 5 volts power regulator. As soon as the EB006 malfunctions feel the temperature of this component with your fingers (be carefull, it may be hot). It should be cold or luke warm, but not hot.

2. If the 7805 was cold then use a different power supply, and see if the problems persist.

Let me know what you find.
