Hi
I'm thinking of building the sdr from may 07 however I have a few questions for those with more analog electronics knowledge than I. I'm a 4th year computer science student but I've taken some electronics classes. I'm comfortable working with digital electronics, microprocessors, digital logic, etc, however I'm a bit lost in the analog world. I know eagle, I can solder surface mount parts with no problems but my electronics knowledge starts to drop off when I get to op amps and bandpass filters and all this analog stuff.
I'd like to build a surface mount version of this sdr but I'm worried about making the wrong component selections, specifically with the inductors. I've built a few buck-boost regulator circuits so I can use lipo batteries on some 5v projects. I was most concerned with selecting inductors with the proper current ratings and shielding however it doesn't seem like these are the properties I'd be looking for with this circuit.
I'd really appreciate a few pointers as far as component selection on this project. I'm also assuming that the caps, besides the higher value electrolytics, can be replaced with smd ceramics. What about the resistors, from the board image it looks like some are 1/8 watt and some are 1/4 watt. Not sure which ones I'd have to worry about as far as power ratings are concerned.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm really looking forward to learning some of this stuff as I've recently become interested ham radio.
