Reporting back...

Spent the day looking at programming environments. Normal Open Source mishmash it seems.

However the story so far is:
Download and install Eclipse IDE for C/C++ (v3.6 Helios) http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-cc-developers/heliosr
Download and install WinAVR http://sourceforge.net/projects/winavr/files/
Then the AVR plugin http://avr-eclipse.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/The_AVR_Eclipse_Plugin

This seems to give me a start on the software. However, I cant find how we link to the hardware? I don't know if we need a dedicated programmer. Or if there is some form of interface between the PC and the OBD box? I am wondering if the 10 pin header on the PCB might connect to the PC's RS-232 port.

More to follow.

I'm sure everything we need is on this forum: http://www.obd-shop.com/danila/punbb/viewforum.php?id=31
If there is someone here who speaks fluent German, great. Otherwise, maybe we could post a request in English and see what replies we get?

Hi Again,

Following a bit more investigation, I believe that the 10-pin header shown in the image above is the "standard" in-situ programming interface for these devices.

So, off to hunt down a programmer... and of course there is an Elecktor project/kit. The SMD-populated board (USB AVR Programmer), part number 080083-71.

However, this (the 080083-71) has a 6-pin header and the OBD Analyser had a 10-pin header?

Can anyone reconcile?

Just a quick update on the OBD Analyser / USB-AVR programmer story!

The programmer arrived, and sure enough, it has a 6-pin connector. And it is polarised so that it can't fit in the 10-pin header on the OBD Analyser!

Sending out questions to Elektor, but in the meantime, if any one knows the way forward, I'd be glad to hear from you.
